Stenson Captures BMW Title and 2,500th Win for Pro V1

There was a lot of golf to be played on Sunday for Titleist golf ball loyalist Henrik Stenson (Pro V1) as his Saturday round at the BMW International Open was washed out by rain.

With 36-holes in front of him, Stenson went out early and posted a 5-under-par 67 in his third round to open up a one-shot lead. After a quick lunch, it was back out on the course for his final round where he faced some more challenging conditions.

“I didn't have much momentum in the middle of the round,” said Stenson. “I had to dig deep, I did that, and I managed to turn things around to come out on top.”

Stenson carded a 1-under-par 71 final round en route to a 17-under-par 271 victory total and a three-shot margin over Titleist golf ball loyalist Darren Fichardt (Pro V1x) who finished T-2.

This was Stenson’s second win at the event, with his first coming in 2006, and his tenth career European Tour title.

It was also a milestone win for the Pro V1 family as it marks the 2,500th title for the Pro V1 across the worldwide professional tours since it was introduced in October 2000.

“It feels like I've got a nice little boost now in the right direction with the confidence. We've got a big summer ahead,” added Stenson. “We've got two more majors, the Olympics, the FedExCup and The Ryder Cup. There's a lot of golf to play, so this is definitely a push in the right direction.”

Fun Fact: Stenson also recorded the 2,013th win for the Pro V1 family back in 2013 when he captured the season-ending Tour Championship (more here).

TITLEIST BY THE NUMBERS: Titleist was the most relied upon golf ball at the event with 103 players in the field trusting the Pro V1 or Pro V1x. That’s more than six times the nearest competitor with 16.

The win was the 15th for Titleist golf ball loyalists on the 2016 European Tour season, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 4.
