  1. Hi, I'm new here. I've been using the 962 irons for almost 20 years and want to know which of the latest few releases are the most similar make, feel and distance to them. Have tried 2 different makes, just to upgrade(both second hand but mint) and nothing I've hit and liked look off comes close in both feel and length

    Thanks titleist.

  2. In the 20 years since their release, equipment has changed a lot. I see somewhat similar lofts with the AP2, but if I am not mistaking cavity backs like the 962 were considered a game improvement iron. The AP3 is a bit stronger lofted, but falls into this category with a similar head size. Have you hit any of the new clubs? What was your experience?

I personally don't know which 718 model is the most similar to your 962s. What I suggest though is that you set up an appointment with a qualified Titleist fitter and he/she will be able to help you figure out the answer. You'll be able to try all the different models with various shafts to find the combo that most closely fits the look/feel you are looking for.
  4. The old 962 was a great club in its day, I played them too. But the whole club shopping experience has changed in 20 years. Your best bet is to find a good Titleist club fitter and spend some time talking about your game. Then the fun starts. You'll find the best combo of club head and shaft in no time. The one thing you know already is to play Titleist.

Certainly not a game improvement iron, MPF 495
You're looking at AP2, CB, T-MB, to have similar MPF

    I wouldn't dump them 962's

I've had many sets I've wished I had back.

Find a "Titleist Thursday" fitting event. It's free and they will steer you to what "fits" you.

962 were my first set of Titleist; i always felt these were and still one of the best set of irons i ever played. They were made for the better player. I would think the CB would preform similar....but with all the changes in technology; tungsten weighting; shaft selection; lie adjustments; launch monitors....you definitely need to go get fitted. Currently playing AP-2 (that was my move from the 962); but have been thinking of CB....

Still have a set of 962Bs in my collection, but they don't really compare to anything in the current line. Technology has come so far since then, and you really need to do a fitting to figure what's best for you.

Won't be surprised if the CBs catch your eye, though their clubfaces are notably smaller than the 962s.
