Wedge Stamping is Hard!!! I have purchased several stamp kits and a heavy hammer. Planning on customizing some fresh SM8’s. Currently getting some Practice in on some old SM7’s. You can see in several spots where the stamps skipped...thus my poor attempt to cover the errors. I’m very confident once I get the setup right and the feel for the strike all will be good! On order are some cool characters!!! I’ll keep the thread going with the progress I make!!! Aaron Dill are you looking for an PT Assistant???

    Cheers, Dr. K

I always wondered if all this pounding changes the loft or compromises the club in anyway. But the great Aaron Dill does it everyday, so it must be okay. Would love to hear from Aaron on this subject. Thanks!

    Great question...
I do not believe so...unless you have the wedge secured in a poor way.

  11. This flair has come a long way since just allowing 3 initials on the toe for the custom shop! Those all look amazing, well done

Looks good! To prevent skipping get painters tape and a sharpie. Place the painters tape over the area to stamp and use the sharpie to mark where you want to stamp. If you're going to just free form the just put the tape over and stamp. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the tip.
I have experimented with the tape technique...for some reason I like to see metal on metal.
I'm looking at non sparking brass hammers as well...they pack a big punch with a soft feel.

    Cheers,
    Dr. K

You can try a dead blow, a friend of mine uses one. I've never tried it.

This craftsmanship requires practice and you have definitely mastered it. For me wedge stamping is like getting a tattoo; what happens if you are not pleased with the end result. Well, maybe I am fuzzy about my wedges. Having said that, I think they look great and that is customization at another level. Well done, Dr. K.

Since I'm basically teaching myself the craft of wedge stamping...I'm ok with making mistakes on my own gear.
Hopefully Really Soon I'll proficient enough to explore more creative styles and techniques!!!
I'm sure the best wedge stampers have had a few bumps in the road.

I do my own stamping too, though I keep my stampings much simpler than yours, to make it easier on myself. I have to say, Dr.K, you did an excellent job with yours. Nice creativity and clean work. Very impressive. Your work outshines my simple stampings.
