  1. I am interested in buying a 917 Driver, what is the best shaft for me? I am 66yrs old, 5'6" and very strong....with a swing speed of 88, most of my drives are between 250 and 270 yds.

I'm 65 with a swing speed a little above yours and my drives are in the same rage as yours. With that said, it's impossible for me to correctly recommend a shaft for you based on swing speed alone. In order for you to get the correct driver head & shaft combo for your swing you really need to schedule a fitting with a qualified Titleist fitter. Use the "Find Fitting Locations" menu item at the top of the website in order to find a fitter near you.

Agree with Barry and what everyone else said.. Get fitted. So many different options.. Went to Manchester Lane a few years ago to get fitted and I was blown away by all the different shafts available.. And yeah, each one made a difference in my ball flight, speed, etc.. Get fitted.. Well worth it...

Frankly without a proper fitting it would just be a guess. The technology for fitting is so good now why do trial and error. Catch a fitting event where they can use TrackMan to get you some good data.

We could make suggestions, but purchasing a driver is an INDIVIDUAL thing and it is best that you go see a Titleist fitter. He will put you on a Trackman, try numerous combinations of shafts and heads and come up with the Titleist 917 driver specifically for YOU. Whenever I purchase any new Titleist clubs, I ALWAYS get fitted because my numbers can change.

The loft, shaft, and weight all work together to give you the best fit for your swing. Every golfer with a swing speed of 88 is not like the next one. Angle of attack, swing path, how much you load the shaft are all variables. For example, a year ago my head speed barely broke 80, but my transition really loads the shaft, so it worked best for a high launch but stiff shaft for me. I would never have come close to my current 917 on my own, I owe a lot to my fitter. Anything we suggest would be biased to our own setup. Find a good fitter and trust them.

definitely get fit. Go to a TT fitting, your local golf professional or at least get fit at one of the big box stores. There are many shafts out there, so try several

You need to get properly fit. I think it will also tell you a bit more about your numbers. I have attached a chart from the guys at Trackman. You will see that if we up your clubhead speed to 90 MPH your actual carry distance is closer to 209 yards than 250-270. this does not account for roll, just carry.
