Where do you mark your ball?

    First I always buy #8 golf balls when I place my orders in the spring. Additionally I will place three blue dots in a triangle manner by the number. I chose the #8 because it is rare that you see golfers playing with high numbers.

    I use a red Marks A Lot and put a dot about the size of a dime over the ball model logo. For awhile I thought that was pretty common because the pro shop had a bunch of them in the used ball bin. But our pro told me "Nope, you're the only one I know who does that, and you still have to pay if you want them back."

    I put my initials on opposite sides and I put a red line through the ProV1

    I've been made fun of for having a "101 Dalmatian's" ball - I have three dots on either side of the logo. Someone stole my black marker out of my bag at the beginning of the season so now my dots are blue.

    A single alignment line around the ball. A small slash through the number.

    USGA rule 7 tells you how to identify your ball by lifting if necessary but always replacing it in the same condition as it was when you performed that identification. Usually your lie will allow you to see your small unique marking if it is on both sides of the ball. Anyone using the identification rule to better their lie would be someone I am not interested in playing with during a competitive situation.

    +100, Dale! If I was on the Committee of a competition and was made aware of someone deliberately taking advantage of "identifying" their ball to avoid a poor lie, I'd remind them of Rule 33-7 which gives us the authority to implement a disqualification penalty if it is determined that a serious breach of etiquette has occurred.

    Play number 77 makes my ball distinctive from others, but I add 2 blue dots on either side of the number, plus an alignment line on the side opposite the ProV1 mark.

    I play #77 custom balls which helps. I also use my signature along the sidestamp line of the Pro V1 Left Dash. I find the signature is unique and everyone uses dots.

    Always by the ball number on both sides and always in red ( since 1993 ). Just ordered a dozen Tour Softs with the TT logo on them.

    I have always put a single blue dot in the dimple that is most centered above the Titleist logo. Been golfing for 15 years like this. I will have friends find prov1x balls with a blue dot and ask me if I have ever played the course they found one at and if I want my ball back.

    Put a line thru the Pro V1 marking with a Raspberry Sharpie that I got at Office Depot. I figured no one used that color, but everyone calls it Red. When the Sharpie dries out, I'll try Purple next.

    I put a blue dot just under the ball name (ProV1x). I don't like anything too obnoxious

    off the tee, i like the side opposite the Alignment aid facing me (blank side of the ball), then I put a red dot to the right of the number on the side of the ball, that will face the fairway off of the tee

    It would have to be some US open rough for you to not be able to find your marking on a ball, it just takes some twisting and some bending down to look. I prefer to make smaller marks that less "distracting" to me. I like to make a blue dot near the T on each side.

    Single green dot right of the #. So doing that way since I played high school golf... so that was 1979 - 46 years!!! And yes the team played Titleist DTs.

    I mark two balls in case I need to hit a provisional. One has a green line under Titleist. The other has two green dots to the right of Titleist.

    I play the left dash so the ball # is red in color and I place 3 black dots around the ball # on both sides of the ball. Everyone I routinely play with knows my exact marking so there is never any doubt, which is good b/c the majority of us play Titleist.

    I use the Performance Alignment ball and put a single dot on both ends of the arrow.
