    Hello all,

    I have heard there are many books that specialize in course management and the mental side of golf. There are MANY listed online so I figured I would ask my TT family to see if anyone has any recommendations! Thanks for any feedback!

    Can't go wrong with this classic;

    “The Little Red Book” by Harvey Penick is a classic in the world of golf literature. It contains a wealth of short, practical tips and anecdotes that offer both technical and mental guidance for golfers. Penick’s wisdom has been cherished by golfers of all levels for decades. While Penick was a strong all-around teacher of the game, he was perhaps the most gifted instructor of the mental game who ever lived. He advocated that "once you address the ball, hitting it to the desired target must be the only thing in your life. Allow no negative thoughts, and focus on your goal.

    I read Harvey's book so many years ago. To this day, there are times when I'm struggling on the course and i think "Take dead aim". Sometimes the simplest thoughts are the best. The Little Red Book and Hogan's Five Lessons are must read for every golfer. Bob Rotella's book on the mental aspect are outstanding.
  4. Chuck, First off, thank you for your service. Secondly, thanks for the recommendation, I had never heard of this book but just ordered a copy after reading your post.

    Ben Hogan's Five Lessons and one of Bob Rotella's books on the mental side is all you need.
  7. "The Inner Game of Golf" by Tim Gallwey. A good read on the mental game.

    The finest book on the mental aspect of the game I have ever read is "Fearless Golf" by Dr. Gio Valiante. I shot 77 after reading the first few chapters, followed by a 79. www.amazon.com/.../0385511922

    JPHB, I have not finished Fearless Golf yet. However, after reading almost half last summer, I placed 1st, B Div. and 1st Team, Monday Night league, 1st in Sparks league with my wife and 3rd in 2nd half Friday night couples league. I better get reading some more because it's almost league time here in the North East! Great Book. And thank you to all who recommended other books, such as Hogans Five lessens and the little Red by Penick. I hate to read, but I think I have my summer reading assignments for 2024!

    Penick, Rotella and Hogan's books are staples in classic golf literature. I have read them all and they are a great help. Some others that may have what you are looking for are - The Four Foundations of Golf by Jon Sherman, Think Like a Caddie, Play Like a Pro by James Bartlett and The Tournament Golfers Playbook by Mike Booker.

    Another Mental book that I read was With Winning in Mind by Lanny Bassham. While it's not a golf specific book, it's a great read based on competition and performance.

    I'm not sure if you are one to listen to podcasts, but I've been tuning into Wicked Smart Golf by Michael Leonard. He has a book that I am looking to get as an audiobook when it is released (what can I say, I drive a lot for work). Lots of insight into the books and teachings of Dr Rotella and other golf/mental game experts as well as his own experience as a competitive golfer here in AZ. If you do give it a listen/read, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

    I have the little red book and several of Rotella's books that I listen to in the cars on my way to the course. It sometimes gets me focused before I get to the first tee.

    Steve Williams (Tiger's former caddy) wrote an excellent book detailing mental processes and how it pertains to golf. I think it was called Golf At The Top? Excellent read.

    “Down the Fairway” by Bobby Jones.

    Great writing!
  18. Bob Rotella, Patrick Cohen are two of my favorites....all the ones mentioned above are great also...these two authors are specific to the mental game.
