Best advice I can give you comes from one of my instructors. "Try hitting the hole."
  3. I came across a video a while back that explained from the ball position, imagine you’re tossing the ball at the hole. Remember how hard you feel you would have to toss for it to make it to the hole. Now relay that into your putter. I may not sink it every time but I’m always within a foot of the hole. Hope this helps.

I'm in the same boat, I'm costing myself strokes every time I go to putt.

I recently did a putter fitting at the Scotty Cameron Gallery in CA. It was very enlightening... and mostly about my setup. A couple of things I took away from it, which instantly made an impact on the game...

    1. Make sure your forearms are aligned with the putter shaft
    2. Ensure that your eyes are above the ball (I thought I was, but the video showed differently)
    - may need to get someone else to record you and make sure
    3. Pick your line, then pick a spot about 6 inches in front of the ball that is on your line and make sure that you get it started on the line

    Then it's all about pace.

Agree with my right honorable friend, RT, regarding your eyes are above the ball. An old friend who I use to play with gave me a simple way to find how if you are lining up over you ball correctly. Not rocket science and no videos needed. I am a simple person and need simple instructions. A couple of guys on here will tell you how simple minded I am. Take your normal putting stance and place a small coin (penny or dime) against the middle of your forehead (between the top of your eyeline), then release it. Where it lands is where you should be placing your golf ball. Try it and it becomes natural part of your putting game. This dude could putt. Best I have ever seen, pro or amateur. Agree putting is all about speed. I can feel a good putt and pretty know when it is going in. 99.9999 % of all putts you hit into the hole go in. Keep that in mind and you will make more. Search Brad Faxon on YouTube. There are a bunch of videos where he walks through his steps to putting and green reading. There is also a video og him giving Rick Shiels a putting lesson that is good.

Make sure you have good fundamentals. See an instructor if you need help with fundamentals. Less hands and more shoulder rotation in the stroke. After that, practice, practice, practice. Use alignment aids for short putts and spend equal time practicing short putts and very long putts to ingrain feel for long lag putting. Don't change golf balls. The feel of the ball can really make a difference, especially in long lag putting. Good luck and wishing you many one-putts.
