Considering the Dinah Shore or ANA tournament is being played for the last time this week, should the new tournament in Houston be considered a major?

    Yes No

To me a major must present a challenge. So if the course presents itself as that, I would say sure.

I can not see how changing venues makes the event a major or not, three out of the four on the PGA tour are at different venues each season. The LPGA does an outstanding job of setting the courses to challenge the best players in the world. So my vote would say yes its still a major championship

A tournament that is not an Open or PGA needs prestige and history to be a major - such as The Masters or Dinah Shore. This new tournament has neither, only a large purse which seems to be the deciding factor in what the LPGA decides is a major. Honestly I could care less if they play for $1 or $10,000,000, that’s not why I watch golf.

It's hard to comprehend that no corporation wants to sponsor such a noteworthy event at Mission Hills. You can bet this is about money and, Mission Hills CC will lose a lot of allure when it comes to desert golf.

I agree with Gabe, the event should still be a major. I think that in the not too distant future, another event will be played at Mission Hills, possibly a Champions Tour event.

I would like to see them move the LPGA Founders Cup to Mission Hills and play it at the end of April, in-between the Masters and PGA but before it gets too hot in the desert. The idea of the "founders" linking to Dinah Shore just makes sense to me, given the history behind women's golf. My opinion anyway.

I agree with John G's and Dale V's comments.
  10. I grew up playing all 4 of the golf courses, Arnold Palmer, Dinah Shore, Gary Player and Pete Dye! Mission Hills has the best warm up facility and gym that I’ve ever seen! Dinah’s course has lots of history such as easter day 2008 when Lorena Ochoa became champ, I was standing on the 18 fairway when my dad and I felt an earthquake after taking fake practice swings after Ochoa jumped in Poppy’s Pond. Great memories, it will forever be missed but if MH hosts another LPGA tournament there that could be exciting for locals!
