I have been playing a 2020 Scotty Special Select Newport 2 with 60 gram total of weights. That is 30 in each port. Have not had much luck of fast greens. Thought back to the days of the success I had had with my older model Newport 2 putters and the lighter weights in the heads. My previous had 20 grams total, so went by my favorite local titleist account/repair shop/fitter and put in some 10 gram weights that I had in my adjustment bag. Wanted them to check to make sure that the old weights would fit without striping the newer threads. All is well and also picked up some 15 gram weights, ensured they fit, for further experimentation. Our greens are very slow right now due to fertilizing, heavy watering and not mowing everyday. They most likely are rolling at a 9 now, which most of the senior really like, but come tournament they will have them around 11-12+, which they will be complaining about. I like having the ability to adjust the weights depending on the speed of the greens. Look out TPC Scottsdale.

The 79th Annual City Amateur Invitational is the 19th-21st, and they want the greens to be as good as they can get them. 18 of 121 registered as of today are scratch (0-+4.5). A great time to play them on the 23rd for the Folds of Honor event.

  2. I have a few differnt weights, i tend to put heavier weights in the winter and lighter for the summer

Do you guys overseed with Rye grass in the winter? Could make your greens slower.

Interesting to hear you say that Chuck, since I kind of went the other way. I had a 2014 Newport (which is now in the possession of my son) and I got a weight set for, I think I had 10g weights in each port to start, then I went to a 15 in the heel and 10g in the toe to promote a little more flow.

Then I purchased a Special Select Newport last summer that came with the 30g weights in each port. I love it with the heavier head and I feel like it's helped. That seems to be a theme lately, was fit in the TSR4 and prefer the heavier feel of the head to the other models.

Best of luck in your events, hope you play and putt well.

Actually improved the putting stroke on the faster greens this past week. In my previous Newport 2 putters, 35", they had 10grm weights and I did rather well with them. It just feels right and hangs smoothly as the clubs flows thru the ball.
  6. I put my Newport Select 3 in a dark place for awhile and temporarily replaced it with a Woods mallet w/ a Superstroke 3.0.
When I eventually let Scotty out I'll put a Superstroke on it. Then play around with the weights a bit.
  7. Agreed, lighter weights for faster greens!

I recently picked up a new Super Select GoLo 6 and started experimenting myself with the weights. At the beginning I threw in 2 30 gram weights and while my short putts were great, I too lacked feel on distance control. I looked up the Scotty Cameron weight replacement recommendation chart online and ended up putting 2 20 gram weights in. That put it in the "heavier" range. Then I figured out the overall head weight and picked up SuperStroke countercore Flatso 2.0 grip. I put a 75 gram counterweight in the grip which made the grip 1/3 the weight of the head to counterbalance it. I've never felt more confident or putted better.

Love my new set up and don't see myself changing putters for a long time now.

For some strange reason, our superintendent is not cutting our greens very low right now. If they are running at an 8, I am being overly generous. Have heard some say he is afraid they will burn out due to the high temps and humidity. We play on tifeagle Bermuda and are fairly close to the ocean. Went by my favorite golf shop, David Ayres Lowcountry Golf (Titleist account) today to set up an appointment for a fitting next Wednesday and was talking to Matt in the repair shop about getting another set of weights for my Select Newport 2. They had some 40grm in stock so purchased those and changed out my 30grm and now sport 80grm which I hope will help my issue on these slow greens. In my travel tool kit I now have my wrench and plenty of weights; 10grm, 15grm, 30grm and 40grm. Still have my 910D adjustment tool kit that we got when we bought that driver. Awesome zip bag and accommodates all my needs. Can adjust on the fly where ever I play. Definitely ready for Scottsdale.
  10. Hey Chuck, did you know that if you put in the 25g weights, that the club gets to 333g. I have the authentic copper or bronze weights in there and it looks amazing with the added color of gold and red… not sure but I’m betting this is the only 333g configuration from any Scotty select available.
