  1. Just looking for some inspiration or something new to try. So, whats everyone’s favourite swing drill when practicing on the range during these winter months?

    Simon,

I'm not a range goat especially as with a long term wrist injury I don't feel comfortable hitting off mats. I did watch a Bryson video where he had two drills to improve strike. check out on his YouTube channel.

First using tape stuck to the mat, electrical tape was used, and using it as a guide to low point. Secondly he uses two tees in the mat just over a club width apart to check for center strike, hitting the closest tee would be a toe strike and Vice versa.

For me this time of year it's the putting mat and Putt Out pressure trainer.

Once I've warmed up through the bag, as an alternative to a specific swing drill, I sometimes like to work through imaginary tee-to-hole scenarios to keep engaged.

Here's how I go about it and an example scenario:
    * Suppose it's a hypothetical 370-yard par 4. I allocate a fairway within the left third of the range.
    * Identify two range reference points, such as yardage signs, outlining my 'fairway.'
    * Aim to land between the markers while clearing 200 yards. If I do, fairway hit.
    * I tee off, but miss - my driver shot is off-centre, missing the “fairway” zone short and right, I adjust the next shot as if I were on a course.
    * Next shot - longer iron and aim for a target area that’s slightly left on the range to compensate for the tee shot.
    * I then hit my iron slightly thin but in the right direction, so bounced over the green.
    * The last shot here is a short game shot to get back up onto the green.

    And so on.

I hope this makes sense! It's just something a friend and I do at times to make sure we've maintained focus at the range and are working on our game, rather than blasting through balls.

    Hi Simon.

I use a couple of drills that don’t really get the mind over thinking that much.

First being walking out 5 yards from where you hitting balls and sticking a alignment stick in the ground.

The plan is to try and hit the ball on the inside of the alignment stick to try promote a soft lemon ( Draw ) and then flip it to try and hit a fade.

This is quite common but place a ball being the club face and on take away push the ball straight down a line and then hit your follow. ( Jason Day has a good video on this ).

Good luck in the off season and have a great summer of golf.

I’m into a towel on the ground behind the ball to make sure I’m striking, and I quite like a sequencing drill to make sure I’m firing my hips first. Keeps me hitting the preferred fade.

All this said, it is bloody freezing outside so range time is limited!! :-)
